American Lung Association
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cigarette smoking is the principal cause of preventable death in the U.S. It is responsible for one in five deaths—or more than 440,000 deaths annually. Tobacco use greatly increases a person’s risk for cancer, heart disease, stroke, respiratory diseases, and a host of other conditions.
QuitDay.org
- Tips for starting your quit
- Choose a date to quit smoking. Your quit date is the day you stop smoking completely. Do your best to stick to it. Pick your quit date up to 35 days after you start taking it.
- Let others know you’re quitting smoking. Letting a few friends and family know you’re quitting allows them to support you while you quit.
- Identify your triggers. Knowing the behaviors or situations that make you want to smoke will help you to avoid them.
- Learn as much as you can. The more you know about nicotine addiction and quitting smoking, the better prepared you will be to start your quit.
